Volunteering is a passion of mine, and I was fortunate enough to find an opportunity to use my user experience research and design skills with NoSchoolViolence.org, a Seattle-based nonprofit. Since the end of 2022, I have been working with the founder, Paul Privateer, on a project to develop a web-based behavioral analytics database that aims to prevent school violence. To achieve this goal, we have been conducting market, product, and user research and design.
Our aim is to provide parents and educators with easy-to-use web data tools that can help them identify behaviors that could lead to violence. By analyzing language patterns and behaviors, we want to empower parents to better understand their child's emotional needs and the statistical likelihood of them being victimized or engaging in violent behavior. Ultimately, our goal is to mitigate school violence by providing valuable insights that help parents and educators prevent it before it happens.
In my work, I conducted both primary and secondary research, which involved designing and leading a survey. Using the insights gathered from the survey, I created user personas, user journeys, and user flows. These tools and research were used to guide designers during a hackathon event at the Microsoft Reactor in 2023.
