I started out the Google UX Design Certificate course by making a recipe organizer app for a cafe setting.
Research
I worked as a bartender for many years and have access to individuals in the industry. I moderated in-depth interviews in order to understand their needs. I identified some key design opportunities for my product.
In addition, I also conducted a commercial audit.
Process
I identified patterns from the interview notes and organized them into insights. The design insights were identified:
Clear, visual display of all recipes on one screen
Large buttons for working in a fast-paced kitchen
Visual instructions for recipes
Ideate
From there I developed a persona, user journey map and problem statement. These were my first-ever attempts at drawing.
Design
I made paper wireframes next and decided on the ones that would satisfy my user needs based on my research.
Next I extrapolated the paper wire frames into digital wireframes using Figma. I started thinking about the user flow and information architecture and developed a flow chart. I wish I had learned Adobe XD at that point. I would have made a cleaner flow chart :)
I made a low fidelity prototype for a usability study.
The usability study determined pain points in the design. It also satisfied KPIs established as task completion rates. An affinity Diagram was used to organize the data.
High resolution mock-ups
I originally imaged the color scheme to be that of a french bakery with the pink stripes. I used the insights from the research to design the home screen with scrollable images and with users access to all recipes.
Usability Study
Another usability study was conducted using participants from the restaurant industry. Insights were gained pertaining to flow and design.
